Nuclear group lets India in
Atlanta News.Net Sunday 7th September, 2008
The 45 members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group have approved a US proposal to lift a ban on nuclear trade with India.
The ban, which was instituted 34 years ago after India tested its first nuclear device, was lifted at the meeting in Vienna.
A number of countries were reluctant to vote for the proposal, which permits a US deal to sell nuclear energy technology to India.
But India agreed to a commitment for a voluntary moratorium on nuclear testing.
